About Me

sup wassup?
Hey you, I’m JC. My first name is a union of the famous schizophrenic queen from the House of Trastamara and a fictional orphan from Victor Hugo’s famous novel-turned-Broadway hit, but I rarely go by that. I’m choleric (people who know me would argue it's sanguine; I think at some point early in my life I was sanguine) - melancholic, ISTJ, female, Filipina, passionate, aesthetic, intellectual, most valuable pasaway (subversive).I think I have my fair share of both left- and right-brained tendencies. Manila has been my home for more than twenty years. I also lived in the wilderness province alone for more than a year, braving storms, snakes, insects, and lizards of all sizes. I work in marketing and communications, and I am also a proudly green part-time grad student.

I love doing the following:
  • I take pictures. I like shooting clouds, silhouettes, sunrises/sunsets, landscapes and ruins. I’d like to work on my people shots too. My primary weapons for this hobby are Oberon, my Nikon D5000 and Cecile, my old trusty Sony Cybershot DSC-W35.
  • I write. Aside from blogging, I also write stories, both original and for fandom. I’ve been writing stories ever since I was eight years old, both as a form of release and self-expression. I’m really shy about showing my stories - a lot of them are hidden still, but I’ve made it a point to post some of it in the Internet in various listings and in some fanfiction challenges. Here’s a compilation if you’re interested: (original fiction | fanfiction) I’ve also joined NaNoWriMo a couple of times, and have won in both. However, my NaNo works remain unfinished. I write the occasional poem too, but I do more prose.
  • I sing. I almost forgot that I could. The short of it was that I was told by a classmate during Grade 2 that I had a terribly loud voice that was not made for singing, and that I should totally give up on it. I believed in that lie for many years. That was until college - I was in dire need of money that I had to join a (Japanese) singing contest that would get me the cash to buy a Kangta CD.  I won not only the money, but my confidence back. I regularly sing in church, which is not only a great creative outlet, but a way to give back my talent to the One who gave it. Music is also something that I’m passionate about. My taste for music is a bit on the weird/wild side (whatever you want to call it). I listen to a lot of J-pop and K-pop (the old school ones, not the DBSK/SuJu/whatever). I like lots of English songs too, but if you look at my iPod the stuff there’s predominantly Asian. Details of my most recent rakets (and failed attempts to go the next level, harhar) can be found here.
  • I read a lot. Probably more than watching TV. I love books; a good book is probably one of the best things you can give me. I prefer speculative fiction and fantasy books.
  • I watch TV. Of course I do. I preoccupy myself with a lot of anime, Disney (The Lion King is my all-time favorite), and some Nick. I watch reality shows like ANTM primarily to get photoshoot tips. Movies with sad endings move me.

what's to wonder about?
This blog is actually an experiment of sorts.

I have been blogging ever since I was in high school, but it was only recently that I decided to make my blog posts public. Like, I had a blog that had four years worth of posts, most of which had not been seen by people I interacted with on a daily basis.

Since college, there's this small itch to actually go public with some of the stuff I write or do, but I have this fear (which nags me till now) that people who know me in real life will not understand it, or it will be shot down as horrible/inconceivable. So, I want to find out for myself if those fears are grounded in truth. Hence, this blog was born.

Having said that, posts here are mainly slice-of-life and some introspection here and there. It’s rare that I write about current issues unless I really feel strong about them. Expect me to fangirl on anime once in a while. I think it's with the fangirling where the misunderstanding comes, but when I do fangirl and I post it here, that's about as real as it gets. XD

this is crazy...where do I go for more?
Aside from this blog, you can also find me here:

Tumblr, which is updated almost everyday. Beware: I post mostly fandom stuff there - most of which are NOT wholesome. So, go there and look at it and have a handy salt shaker nearby.
Twitter, which is where I try to condense my thoughts in 140 characters. Also updated almost everyday.
Facebook. You'll have to know me in real life to find me there. I'm not searchable (yeah I can be that exclusive)
